Every single phrase of this account is referenced in Scripture, but for simplicity and clarity the references are omitted, see the web site for details.
We all come to the Lord and spend time in silent prayer in different ways; this account is to give you a hunger and thirst for what is available. This is an experience in faith.
Find a quiet place – be it in a beautiful landscape, a garden or room, in stillness, where there is no intrusive noise.
Acknowledge God’s presence, Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit.
Say in silence the Lord’s Prayer – dwell on the four actions, give us, forgive us, lead us, deliver us.
Come to Jesus and give over all your cares and concerns to Him. Give all, to be poor in spirit, to be lowly.
Your will find rest for your soul; you are free to focus on the Lord; your anxieties, worries, thoughts of self are with Him now.
He gives you the garment of praise, and robe of righteousness to stand in His presence.
Be taken up as on an eagle’s wings, the Lord alone leads you, into the House of the Lord, this one place described as the inner court, the ‘Secret Place of the Most High’ or the sheepfold. You just find yourself there.
Let your soul magnify the Lord, and your spirit exalt in the Lord. You are lowly.
Just be present to the Lord in silent stillness.
You simply worship or rest as you feel led.
Within your heart, not vocally, sing simple songs [many songs are about worshiping in the Secret Place], pray in tongues or gently say words of worship. These are usually interwoven with gentle breaths of simple silence.
This presence is intimate and personal. Sense -
- being in a beautiful white ‘cloud of knowing’ radiating light and joy, with the Lord,
- or in a dance of joy with the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
- or around the throne with all creatures in heaven and on earth.
You may be led to move from one to the other.
You may be led beside the still waters of the Spirit, as He restores your soul.
If you are prompted by a thought, write it down and return to your silent stillness.
Be held in the Lord’s presence for half an hour, an hour or more.
At a time, you sense is right, leave this space.
Follow Jesus into Pasture; you are not of the world anymore; you are just in it.
Reflect that you are salt and light, on having a servant’s heart, on what the Lord may be placing on your heart, His compassion for lost sheep. Give what services you intend to do into the hands of the Lord so He can magnify them 5000+ fold in their effect on others.
